Lostisland is going ahead of Libya

Lostisland is existing for nearly four years. During that time we made many significant achievements - turned a RPG into a serious new nation project, established many contacts all over the world, filmed our first movie, succeeded in building a governmental system. Last autumn the first native Lostislandian was born. This is not the full list of our accomplishments, and even more things are to come soon.

But despite all that, Lostisland was sometimes critisized for its inpopularity, or better say - so-called inpopularity. Although the demographical problem is still very serious, we have enough active citizens to maintain the government active, and which is equally important - people from foreign interested in Lostisland, who are regularly following all our activities.

As the picture below shows, in Google the number of search queries for the words republic of lostisland overtook the same measure for the words republic of libya:

What does it mean? Although the point can be not as clear for non-proffesionals, it is very simple: despite all the recent cataclysmes in Libya, nowadays more people are searching for information about Lostisland. A small newborn nation overtook with a number of search queries the Libyan Revolution.

So, Lostisland is unpopular? Before saying that again think about Libya - is it unpopular too?

Google autocomplete isn't an accurate representation of something's actual amount of search queries. Look on Google Insights for Search for results on that. (http://www.google.com/insights/search/#q=Republic%20of%20Lostisland%2CRepublic%20of%20Libya&cmpt=q --In reality you are getting crushed by Libya)

Google uses a combination of your preferences and its own stored information to make suggestions.
On google.ru I got Republic of Loose, Republic of Lome-Togo, Republic of Latvia, and Republic of Liberia. On google.com I got Republic of Letters, Liberia, Lakotah and Love. On google.com.au, which has my preferences saved, I got Libya, Liberia, Lebanon, and Letters. With cookies disabled on google.com.au, I got Letters, Lakotah, Love, and Lebanon. You see how these things are terrible indicators of popularity. Also, Google doesn't actually rank the suggestions by number of searches or anything.

It's really strange, perhaps nobody knows exactly how this system works. However, I think Mr. Matthew is the closest to the truth - perhaps the results depend from where you are. I guess in Russia more people are searching for Lostisland, that's why we see it so.

And the "Republic of Loose" is going ahead of Lostisland.
Popularity isn't everything.
Anyway, congratulations for your real achievements (the ones mentioned in the first paragraph).

"Before saying that again think about Libya - is it unpopular too?"
Depends on what Libya you are talking about. tongue

"not here is doesn't, looks like it retains your preferences"
Yes, Google does that (which is annoying, but it is better some of their practices <_<). Of course, I do wonder why Republic of Lostisland wasn't higher.

But this is the results Google says Republic of Lostisland got:
"About 20,800,000 results (0.15 seconds)"

No, it is not my preference - except the request republic of lostisland I never typed other republic of l into Google. If it will retain my preference, the republic of lostisland will be at the highest position, but it is only on the sixst.

Yes, however Mr. Whitmarsh didn't see, maybe the results vary per country?

May be, I think it is the most obvious explanation. Perhaps in Russia people are searching more information about us.
